Pomodoro'ing
Feb 01, 22This week I have started pairing on a new ticket with a colleage who uses the pomodoro
technique.
If you are unaware of the pomodoro technique, it goes something like this:
- Work for 25 mins
- Take a 5-10 minute break
- Repeat above steps 3 times
- Take a longer break (20-30 mins)
Then we simply repeat the cycle ad nauseum until the end of the work day.
I have to admit that I have tried this before, but I really struggled with the discipline to break off and take some time away from focusing on a problem.
So far we have maintained our discipline, and I have chosen to spend the 5 minute breaks pacing up and down the corridor maniacally.
Did I mention yesterday about the step count app… well the competition is heating up - so I am taking every opportunity to squeeze in some extra activity (hi Marvin btw 👋).
I am finding that when we are strict with our breaks, it is leading to better focused time… so far.
I think the true test will be if I can apply the technique whilst working solo. Honestly I think I will find it hard to break off if I am focusing on a task.
There are a number of apps that will do the tracking, so I may investigate one of them (the actionable data will probably be the best part).
Not the most in depth post today, but it is good to keep track of thangs.
